RAWALPINDI: Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) will carry out an evacuation drill on Tuesday at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport to ensure fire safety measures are available at the airport and that airport employees know how to deal with similar situations.

Flight operations during the exercise will continue as scheduled.

A CAA spokesperson said in a press release that raising awareness among airport staff about emergency situations is essential for reducing the risks of them happening.

In the event of fire, earthquakes or any unlawful acts, the building is required to be evacuated.

Airport employees, ambulance services and fire fighters will be participating in this exercise which will be carried out at 1pm on Tuesday, February 23.

The general public is being informed about the exercise to avoid panic.

The drill is being held to ensure that the ñre and safety services installed at the airport are equipped, staffed and trained to operate according to standards set by the International Civil Aviation Authority, the spokesperson said.

CAA has provided Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (RFFS) at all domestic and international airports that are operated by CAA.

The main role of RFFS is to save lives during aircraft and non-aircraft emergencies and to minimise damages.
