QWP suggests judicial commission in Panama case

Bureau Report 2017-04-23
PESHAWAR: Qaumi Watan Party chairman Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao has said that his party has zero tolerance for corruption and demanded implementation of the Supreme Court judgment as early as possible to remove the prevailing unrest among the nation.

He said this while presiding over QWP`s core committee meeting at the party secretariat here on Saturday. According to a statement, the meeting discussed the political situation in the light of the Supreme Court verdict in Panama Papers case.

The meeting emphasised that instead of Joint Investigation Team (JIT) a judicial commission would have been more appropriate to probe the matter.

The participants said that QWP would not allow any move to destabilise the system which would be detrimental to the interests of democracy.

The meeting said that due to the lingering Panama Papers issue a number of important national issues had been put on the backburner which increased the miseries of the people.

It expressed grave concern over the fact that the issues, including loadshedding and merger of Federally Administered Tribal Areas with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, had not been given due consideration.

The statement said that the QWP strongly condemned the murder of Mashal Khan. It said that the tragic incident brought a bad name to the soil of Pakhtuns and especially to an educational institution.

The party warned that those elements who were trying to save the skin of the responsible people would be strongly resisted.

It asked the provincial government to conduct a thorough probe into the matter so as to expose the actual culprits.

The meeting further demanded that negligence and inefficiency on part of the local administration and Abdul Wali Khan University administration should be inquired into and the responsible people punished.

It added that corrective and remedial measures would be required to purge the university of dejected elements and avoid such incidents in future. Party`s provincial chairman Sikandar Sherpao and other leaders also attended the meeting.
