Police told to produce six suspects in ATC

By Ishaq TanoliKARACHI: The administrative judge of antiterrorism courts on Monday directed police to produce six released suspects with complainants in two cases pertaining to the May 12 mayhem.

Police had arrested Noorul-Hasan, Syed Arsalan Ali, Waqas Kaimkhani, Faisal Wahab, Ghulam Murtaza, Syed Talha, Zeeshan Bashir, Azhar Qureshi and Mohammed Adeel on Aug 16 andHanif,aliasGada;Imran, alias Angrez; Salman Rizvi and Nasir for their alleged involvement in some cases pertaining to rioting registered at the Airport police station during the May 12, 2007 mayhem.

Most of the detained suspect s were said to be political workers.

On Aug 19, police produced the seven suspects after their physical remand expired and submitted that they had released the other six suspects, namely Arsalan, Waqas, Ghulam Murtaza, Talha, Zeeshan and Adeel, under Section 497 (2) of the Pakistan Penal Code in two cases for want of evidence.

The court had sent the seven suspects, who were booked in six cases, to prison.

On Monday, the administrative judge directed the investigating officer to produce the complainants of both cases and the six suspects before the court on Tuesday.

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement mayoral candidate for Karachi Waseem Akhtar and Aslam alias Kala have already been sent to prison in these cases.
