Private science students allowed to sit Matric exams

2014-11-23
RAWALPINDI: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Rawalpindi on Saturday decided to allow private students taking science to appear in matriculation examination subjects.

An earlier notification issued by BISE Rawalpindi barring private students from appearing in matriculation examinations of sciences caused hue and cry among teachers of private schools.

“There was an ambiguity in the last notification that created confusion among teachers and private students. Today, we are pleased to announce that all private students taking science are allowed to appear in matriculation examinations,” said Chairman Board, Dr Muhammad Zareef.

He said the board had also decided not to charge certificate fees from students for the time being.

“The case of certificate fees is in court being contested between private school associations and BISE, so we have decided not to charge this fee until the court decision,” he said.

Abrar Ahmed Khan, Private Schools Management Associations president, said: “The earlier decision was wrong, however we are now satisfied as board has reversed its decision.”— A Reporter
