Policemen who died in harness honoured

GUJRAT: The district police honoured the policemen killed while fighting criminals by installing their portraits on the boundary wall of the Police Lines along Jail Road and hosting a reception for their families to mark Pakistan Day on Monday.

The families of 65 deceased policemen were invited as chief guests to the function that was presided over by District Police Officer Rai Ijaz Ahmed.

On the occasion a local religious scholar, Dr Tariq Saleem, delivered a special lecture on the Islamic philosophy of martyrdom.

A police head constable who was injured in an encounter with outlaws recently also shared his experiences with the audience, while nephew of a deceased policeman related his families feelings.

Additional SP KamranMumtaz delivered the welcome address.

Speaking to the ceremony, the DPO said so far 65 officials of district police had died in the line of duty.

He announced that the streets and roads leading to the houses of theses deceased policemen would be named after these `heroes`.

He hoped the portraits of the deceased police officials would inspire the future generations.

A police contingent presented the guard of honor to the families, while the police band played national anthem. Floral wreaths were also laid on the memorial of the deceased policemen, whereas the flower bouquets and gift packs were given to the guests on behalf of district police .

The parents, widows and children of the deceased policemen also laid flowers on their portraits.
