SHEIKHUPURA: A man allegedly murdered his second wife by setting her alight in Jewanpura on Monday.

An already-married labourer, Waris contracted a second marriage with the victim, Sidra, a year and a half ago. Both his wives lived in the same house and would often quarrel with each other, a witness said.

Waris`s first wife Shagufta allegedly persuaded him to `get rid ofSidra` or she`ll leave him.

Waris gave in and, according to a plan, beat up Sidra, took her to a room, set her on hre and locked it up from outside. Later, the family claimed Sidra had immolated herself.

Bhiki police following directions from the chief minister arrested three people, including Waris, his son Sohaib and another family member, Kashif.

Further investigation was underway.

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has sought an immediate report regarding the incident.
