Three-day Pakistan Day festivities conclude

BAHAWALPUR: The three-day celebrations of the Jashn-i-Baharan coincided with the Pakistan Day festivities concluded at different venues thronged by people, including women and children, here on Monday.

The main attraction for the people was the Central Library Complex and the handicrafts centre where schoolchildren, university students and women set up memorable exhibitions of different designs, boards and paintings.

The children performed different items, including cultural fancy dress show and scouting camps, on the concluding day.

The women gathered at the handicraf ts centre and participated in several organized competitions such as decoration and bouquets of dried-up and fresh flowers.

Police also held a function at the District Police Lines to remember their martyrs.

Regional Police Officer (RPO) Ehsan Sadiq and DPO Sarfraz Ahmed Falki laid floral wreaths at the Shuhada monument at the District Police Lines and paid homage to their services and sacrificing their lives in the line of duty.

The RPO and the DPO pledged to root out terrorism and eliminate criminals from society besides extendinghelp to provide justice to the oppressed people.

They assured 26 present families of the martyrs that the police and people would not forget the sacrifices of their elders and would always remember them.

A smartly turned out police contingent held a march past and the RPO took salute.

The RPO gave away sweets, cash prizes and flower bouquets to thechildren.

RESOURCE CENTRE: The Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has established a resource centre at the Central Library here.

The centre`s opening was aimed at providing necessary help and guidance to students seeking admission in different classes in AIOU which would also provide textbooks and other reading material to students for the examination preparation.

Chief librarian Rana Javed Iqbal welcomed the establishment of the resource centre.

DRAWS HELD: The draws for the selection of around 60 deserving girls of destitute parents to grant them Rs0.9 million cheques was held at the Auqaf`s administrator office here.

Zonal Jahez Committee`s chairperson MNA Begum Perveen Masood Bhatti, flanked by MPAs Fauzia Ayub Qureshi and Haseen Naz, supervised the event.

She asl(ed the desirous parents for next grants to apply on prescribed forms to the Auqaf Department.
