LAHORE: Five suspected militants belonging to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan and Lashkar-i-Jhangvi were killed during an encounter in Rajanpur late on Saturday, police said.
According to a Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) spokesman, police received information that six to seven militants were present near Kurd Chowk in Rojhan tehsil of Rajanpur.
He claimed that the militants were planning to attack government installations and personnel of law enforcement agencies. A Multan CTD team accompanied by the Rajanpur police raided their hideout during which the militants opened fire and threw hand-grenades at the officials, he added. The raiding police party returned fire and when guns fell silent, five of the attackers were found dead.
The spokesman said that the five were killed in firing by their accomplices, adding that two to three suspects escaped.
