PESHAWAR, Oct 23: Students of Kurram Agency have expressed concern over suspension of ration supply to the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Durrani camp and asked the government to fulfill its commitment and solve the problem.
Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday, Fata Students Federation`s Kurram Agency president Shaukat Aziz said that the government had promised to provide cash and ration to some 10,000 affected people, but failed to materialise its commitment.
`The government had assured the people that each family will get Rs25,000 cash and ration for six months, but the cash was not provided and ration stopped after three months without any reason, said Mr Aziz.
He said that crops in tribal region had been destroyed and people had no other source of income.
He said that presently they were depending only on the government support because their houses had been destroyed or partially damaged in the operation.
The student leader said that various NGOs had also announced to support the people, but failed to follow on their commitment. He said that the affected people were residing in damaged houses or makeshift tents.
He asked the government and NGOs to support the people directly instead of sending the packages and cash to them through the political administration because the administration and elders were in the habit of supporting only close relatives and friends.
Mr Aziz alleged that Benazir Income Support Programme forms were sold at Rs200 each to the poor people and there was no check from the authorities concerned.
The FSF leader demanded of the World Food Organisation and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shaukatullah Khan to play role for restoration of ration supply to the affected people of Para Chamkani, Kurram Agency, on urgent basis.
He said that normalcy had returned and people could travel even at night time from Peshawar to Kurram Agency.
