Woman, aide get life in prison for killing her husband

KARACHI: A sessions court sentenced on Wednesday a woman and her male accomplice to life in prison in her husband`s murder case.

Rehmat Bibi and Zakir Hussain were found guilty of killing Mohammad Aslam in a Saeedabad locality in October 2013.

The additional district and sessions judge (west), Zahid Hussain Maitlo, also imposed a fine of Rs200,000 each and in case of default the convicts would undergo an additional six-month imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, the victim married Rehmat Bibi in 2010, but a few years later she repeatedly demanded divorce from him after befriending Zakir.

However, the victim refused and on the night of Oct 6 they killed Aslam after his wife gave him water laced with some drug which intoxicated him.

The prosecution said that they had examined neighbours of the deceased, who had seen the accused Zakir coming to the house of the victim on thenight of murder and the documentary evidence also corroborated their evidence.

A case was registered under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of a brother of the deceased at the Saeedabad police station.

Both accused were in custody and the court remanded them back in prison along with conviction warrants to serve out the awarded sentence.

Two jailed for 10 years Another sessions court sentenced on Wednesday two men to 10 years in prison in illicit weapons cases.

Shiraz, aka Chant; and Kamran, aka Sharmila, said to be political workers, were found guilty of carrying unlicensed weapons in February 2014 within the jurisdiction of the Sir Syed police station.

The additional district and sessions judge, Sikandar Ameer Pahore, who conducted trial in judicial complex, read out the conviction order after hearing both sides.
