Karak locality faces drinking water scarcity

KARAK: The residents of Dabb Sangeni area here have demanded supply of drinking water from Zarakhel water reservoir and said that feasibility of the scheme had already been completed.

The elders, including former councillor Hujat Shah, Rustam Ali and Hayat Khan, told a press conference here onFridaythatthe entire 20,000 population of the area was facing severe shortage of drinking water.

They said that the feasibility report of the scheme had already been prepared in the tenure of the previous government, but work could not be started on it due to some unknown reasons.

They said that the people of the area were facing acute shortage of drinking water.

They elders said that in some parts of Dabb Sangeni the people were forced to use rainwater for drinking purposes, risking different diseases. They demanded of the provincial government to release funds for the water supply scheme as early as possible so that the main problem of the area people could be resolved.

Meanwhile, a local court here on Friday awarded life imprisonment to two persons in a murder case that had taken place in 2007. The convictsincluded JalandherKhan and Shamyat Khan, residents of Warana Mir Hassankhel.

SCHEME APPROVED: Adviser to the chief minister, Malik Qasim Khan Khattak, said on Friday that a drinking water supply scheme had been approved from Changhoz Dam to Latamber and said that worl( on the project would be initiated soon.

Addressing a public meeting here, he said that the water supply scheme from Lawagher Dam to different parts of his constituency was near completion. He said that business activities would pick up with the completion of Karak-Darratang road. Correspondent
