NAB arrests 2 for `embezzling` IDP funds

PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Tuesday arrested an assistant director of Fata Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) and two managers of private banks on charges of embezzling compensation funds to the tune of Rs60 million meant for affected persons of terrorism in Mohmand Agency.

In a statement issued here, the NAB named the three suspects FDMA official, Irfanullah, and Majid Ali and Sardar Ali, managers at two private banks located at Regi Lalma in Peshawar and Inayat Kalay in Bajaur Agency, respectively.

The statement said that the suspects would be produced before an accountability court today (Wednesday) for getting their physical custody for further investigation.

It said that the federal government had announced compensation to the affected people of Mohmand and Bajaur Agencies at rate of Rs160,000 for partially damaged house and Rs400,000 for completely damaged house, respectively.

But, during course of an inquiry it was revealed that Irfanullah in connivance with others created 122 fake survey forms with fake signatures of FDMA representatives and tehsildar of Mohmand Agency. After that he allegedly managed to open fake bank accounts in the name of so-called affected people through Amjad Ali and Sardar Khan.

The NAB statement alleged that the suspects also entertained 40 fake survey forms and pocketed millions of rupees of compensation amount. Bureau Report
