2015-08-25
LAHORE: The King Edward Medical University on Monday expelled two young doctors for humiliating a senior teacher of the institute.

One of the doctors has been barred from getting admission to any postgraduate programme of the varsity for rest of his life, while registration of the other was suspended for a period of three years.

The action was taken on the recommendations of the KEMU academic council which met on Monday. It informed the house that the allegations leveled against the young doctors had been proven in the inquiry report of the disciplinary committee constituted by the Council. Both medics were postgraduate trainees and senior officebearers of the Mayo Hospital chapter of Young Doctors Association Punjab.

Dr Inamullah Barki and Dr Umair Rana had been facing charges of using abusive language against Professor of Paediatrics Dr Akmal Laeeq and locking him up in his office for not inducting some medics into the postgraduate programme.

The committee had shared the report in the academic council meeting for approval.

A majority of the members who were present in the meeting suggested strict punishment for the two `culprits` to make them an example.

A senior KEMU official said Dr Inam would not be able to apply for any postgraduate programme at the varsity, while his colleague might appear in admission test after expiry of his punishment term.-Staff Reporter
