ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued bailable arrest warrants for the director general of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) on Monday for not appearing before the court.

IHC Justice Noorul Haq N. Qureshi issued the arrest warrants after hearing a petition filed by a furniture supplier.

The FDE purchased furniture from the petitioner in 2012 but has not yet paid for the goods because its funds had lapsed in that fiscal year.

Advocate Israr Ahmed Abbasi, the petitioner’s counsel, told the court that the Finance Division cleared the release of the relevant funds in 2013 but the petitioner has yet to be paid.

During the hearing, the court summoned FDE Director General Dr Shahnaz Riaz twice and then adjourned the matter for a few hours. The judge then issued bailable arrest warrants after she remained absent, and adjourned the hearing till Tuesday.
