ISLAMABAD: Chief justice of the Supreme Court has taken notice of appointment of an alleged impersonator as Islamabad drug court chairman in Grade 21.

Advocate Dr Faaiz Ali Syed was appointed on the post by the government on August 19 on contract basis for a period of two years or until further orders.

But only after ten days, his contract was terminated on August 29 with the approval of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Mr Syed on two occasions impersonated himself as the chief justice of the apex court and the registrar.

Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk on Wednesday ordered the law ministry to submit a report highlighting the criteria adopted for his appointment as well as the circumstances which led to the termination of his contract.

An informed source privy to the development told Dawn that the chief justice took notice of the appointment after the court office briefed the chief justice that impersonation cases against Dr Faaiz Ali were referred to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Punjab IG.

A case was also registered against him on July 6, 2011.
