ISLAMABAD: The Punjab Police are staying put in nine educational institutions of the city in violation of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) orders.

The police had been called to the federal capital in the wake of anti-government sit-ins organised by Pakistani Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and given accommodation in educational institutions.

The schools and colleges were supposed to resume classes on August 11 after summer vacation.

However, the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) had to keep extending vacation on weekly basis owing to extraordinary security measures and road blockades.

On September 3, the FDE reopened all colleg-es except for 27 where police officials were staying. Later, the Islamabad High Court took up the matter and gave a deadline, forcing the capital administration to get the remaining educational institutions vacated, but nine are still occupied by the police.

`Police are still staying in nine institutions, which is a serious issue,` said Qaisar Majid Malik, director-general, Federal Directorate of Education (FDE).

He said they had taken up the matter with the local administration but the situation persisted.

`Our students have to prepare for the upcoming matriculation and intermediate examinations,` said a teacher, who is worried about the loss students are suffering.

Meanwhile, the affected students on Wednesday staged a protest in front of Islamabad College for Boys G-6/2 and F-7/2 College.

The protesting students demanded the government to order police to vacate their colleges immediately.

In another development, thousands of personnel of Punjab Police on Tuesday forcibly enteredIslamabad Sports Complex to make it their new abode.

This would disturb training schedule of the players preparing for Beach Games and Pakistan Premier Football League.

`Their presence will affect our players training,` said a senior officer of the Sport Complex.
