Students protest closure of college departments

ABBOTTABAD: Students of Postgraduate College No 1, Abbottabad, on Wednesday took out rally against the closure of six departments at the college, and set a threeday deadline for reversal of the decision.

The protest rally, led by Insaf Students Federation`s divisional president Zubair Khan, converged in front of the press club after passing through the main bazaar.

The protesters said that admissions to MA and MSc in economics, computer science, chemistry, botany, English, mathematics and political science had been stopped and students were asked to get admission in Hazara University.

The students` leaders said that the decision would affect majority of the students as they were poor and would be unable to continue their higher studies.

They demanded of the provincial minister of higher education Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani, who also belongs to Abbottabad, to address their concerns.

ARRESTED: Abbottabad police have arrested a thief while selling stolen items at a shop here on Wednesday.

DSP Cantt Khan Khail told reporters on Wednesday that eight laptops, 11 LCDs, six CPUs, six TV sets, one fridge, one washing machine, a DVD, hard disks, four sofa sets and buffer speakers were recovered from Mohsin Ali, resident of Kehal. He said that the accused had admitted to having sold a number of stolen goods to different shops.

The official said that police had been deployed in the markets on the link road where robbery cases had been on the rise for quite some time.
