80 PML-N men booked for electoral code breach

BAHAWALPUR: The Baghdadul Jadid police on Tuesday registered a case against 80 activists, including two candidates of the ruling PML-N, for allegedly violating the election code of conduct and using loudspeaker illegally.

According to police, the activists allegedly organised an election meeting at Ghausia Park, Satellite Town, on Monday where loudspeakers were also used for delivering speeches.

Those who were also booked under the Amplifier Act included PML-N candidates for slots of chairman Malik Muhammad Akram and vice chairman Malik Abid Channar of Union Council No 9. Police are yet to make arrests.

Police said the suspects also staged a rally in Satellite Town on Monday night.

Meanwhile, 30 activists of a certain sect were booked for allegedly taking out a rally and blocking road at Fawara Chowk on Monday demanding release of Mumtaz Qadri, the killer of Punjab governor Salman Taseer.
