SAHIWAL: A non-government organisation (NGO) began a 16-day campaign on Tuesday in Pakpattan to highlight violence against women.

The campaign, to be culminated on Dec 10, will focus on domestic violence, underage marriages, acid attacks, property ownership rights, voter registration and proper hlling of nikahnama, divorce and khula cases.

Muhammad Hanif, district coordinator of theNGO, told reporters under the campaign, they would educate male members of the society regarding curbing domestic violence.

Motia Khalid said the year 2015 marked the 20-year anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which was considered the most progressive roadmap to gender equality.

Lawyer Munaza Bokhari said the campaign would engage local communities and organisations raising awareness among them regarding gender violence.
