MUZAFFARGARH: Saddar police registered a case against a former PPP MPA on Tuesday under Section 294 of the Pakistan Penal Code for arranging and watching `obscene` dance at his traditional recreational fair in his home town Thatta Sialan on Nov 16.

Police said the case was registered on the order of District Police Officer Malik Awais Ahmad when news channels aired a footage of dance being performed at the fair of Thatta Sialan on Nov 16.

Former prime ministerYousuf Raza Gilani was chief guest at the fair.

Mr Sial told Dawn that every year the Thatta Sialan fair was attended by thousands of recreation-starved people of the area where traditional cultural sports and performances were held.

He said in the Seraiki values, there was no appreciation for `obscene` dance. He said the PML-N government was implicating him to suppress traditional Seraiki fairs and hamper PPP election campaign for the third phase of the local government elections.

He said he would face the case.
