VIP protocol and a baby`s death

2015-12-25
A 10-month old baby-girl lost her life at the gates of the Civil Hospital in Karachi owing to VIP protocol for a politician who was to visit the trauma centre. This is a matter of shame for all Pakistanis.

Politicians must understand that the public is more important than they are as all politics originates from the people. They must also understand that sanctity of public life is above all and sundry.

The politicians can pay unannounced visits but they will not because these will lack the fanfare and pompous display of power.

Bahadar Ali Khan Toronto, Canada (2) IT is most unfortunate that a 10-month baby has died because of VIP culture. How many Bismahs will have to pay with their lives to put an end to this pompous practice called VIP protocol? The people have again risen from slumber to express their anger and wax eloquent about VIP culture, but for how long? They and the media will soon lose interestuntilthe nexttragedy.

I urge the people to awaken for the sake of all those Bismahs whose deaths have gone unnoticed and raise their voice to do away with this country`s VIP protocol culture? Aliza Anees Karachi (3) OUR leaders and the elite class are fond of protocol and pomp to show their importance and power. Even the family members of our top leaders enjoy the same protocol. The roads are blocked and trafhcis stoppedfor hours for their passage while the public suffers.

This practice is against the people`s basic rights. In fact it is a gross human rights violation. The superior judiciary must take notice of this as the people have no other forum to which they can turn.
