7,000 appear in test for 100 Levies posts

GHALANAI: Around 7,000 candidates, with some having BA and FA qualification, have appeared in the physical and written tests for around 100 posts of sepoys in the Mohmand Levies.

A senior official requesting anonymity told Dawn on Wednesday that over 7,000 applications had been received till the last day for submission of applications.

He said that according to the criteria the candidates having middle pass certificate and 18 to 25 years of age with 5x7 heightswere eligible for the sepoy post.

A camp has been set up for the recruitment in the Higher SecondarySchoolofagencyheadquarters, Ghalanai, where political agent Waqar Ali Khan, additional PA Abdul Hameed, APA Zeeshan Abdullah, APA Sajid Nawaz and officials of security forces were present to observe the recruitment process.

Kisan, a youth of Shaheed Banda of Pandiali tehsil, told Dawn that he wanted to join the Levies force. He said that he quit school four years ago in 9th class and was now desperately looking for job.

`My father has died a year ago and I want to join the force,` saidAbidullah. He said that he had FSc qualification, but he could not qualify the 500-metre race.

It has been learnt that majority of the candidates had graduation degrees. Officials said that it was good for the Levies to have educated youth in the force.

The political agent said that the recruitment would be made on merit and priority would be given to educated and talented youths. He said that special seats had also been allocated for the sons and close relatives of dead personnel.

He said that the administration had also set up a committee to ensure transparency in the selection process.
