BREAST cancer is one of the deadliest diseases claiming thousands of lives in Pakistan every year. According to experts and official reports, about 83,000 such cases are reported annually in Pakistan and around 40,000 women die of this deadly disease.

The symptoms of breast cancer, according to experts, include swelling of all or a part of the breast, skin irritation or dimpling, redness pain or the nipple turning inward or a lump in the underarm area.

The detection of breast cancer is done through biopsy when mammograms or physical examination shows a breast change that may be cancer. However, various other tests can be used to detect it.

The provision of facilities at hospitals in all provinces of Pakistan to detect breast cancer is the first priority. To avoid more casualties in this regard, it is time the federal government, with medical organisations, showed some concern towards the sufferings of such patients.
