Girls clinch top positions in BA, BSc exams

TIMERGARA: Girl students clinched top positions in the annual BA and BSc annual examination results announced by the University of Malakand here on Monday.

According to the results, Saba Sohni of government girls` degree college, Thana Malakand, got first position in BSc, obtaining 475 marks, Wareeda Nawab of government girls` degree college, Dargai stood second with 459 marks and Bakht Zada of government postgraduate college, Timergara became third with 456 marks.

In BA, Saba Gul of government girls` degree college, Joligram got 395 marks and stood first in BA, while a private candidate, Noorul Huda, bagged 394 marks and stood second and Ms Haseeba of government girls` degree college, Joligram secured third position with 387 marks.

In B.Com, Tehseenullah of government college of management sciences, Thana, bagged 908 marks and topped the part II results, while Ziaullah and Jan Mohammad of the same college stood second and third, obtaining 907 and 903 marks, respectively.SPORTS` GALA: A sports gala was organised on the premises of the University of Malakand in which teams from different districts participated in the badminton competitions.

The UoM, Pak Army and civil administration jointly arranged the Swat Sports` Gala.

Speaking on the occasion, Brigadier Ahmad Bilal Janjoa, UoP vice chancellor Professor Johar Ali Khan and Malakand deputy commissioner Yahya Akhunzada said that sportsmen of Malakand had great potential, but due to non-availability of facilities they were unable to exploit their skills.

The speakers asked the students to actively participate in co-curricular activities so a healthy society could be created. They said the present government was committed to providing adequate facilities to youth to keep them away from negative activities.

SHOPS DESTROYED: Unknown miscreants blew up five shops in the China market of Timergara bazaar on Monday night. SHO Timergara police station Roshan Zada told Dawn that the shops were flattened through a remote-controlled blast.He said three shops one each of clothes, shoes and grocery were destroyed, while two others were partially damaged.

The police and security forces reached the site, cordoned off the area and started rescue work. No casualty was reported as the market was closed at time of the incident, according to local residents.

They said that it was the second blast in the same market as 15 shops were destroyed when a remote-controlled bomb exploded at the market in 2011.

The management of the market had got threatening letters from suspected militants in 2009 and 2010, warning to not allow women folk into the market, terming it un-Islamic.

CLERKS REJECT TRANSFERS: The All Pakistan Clerks` Association, Lower Dir chapter on Monday announced to observe a complete pen down strike for three days from August 28 as protest against clerks` transfers by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa director education.

The decision was made during a meeting chaired by the association`s district president Mohammad Shaer Tajak. The participants demanded of the government to immediately cancel transfer orders of clerks.
