Ensure uninterrupted access to Parliament House: IHC

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday ordered the capital territory administration to ensure `uninterrupted` access to the Parliament House and the Supreme Court.

`The administration is hereby directed that while the right of protest is being exercised, access to the Parliament House and the Supreme Court shall remain uninterrupted,` the court ruled.

Justice Athar Minallah passed these directions while hearing a petition filed by a representative of the traders against the `sitins` He directed Additional Deputy Commissioner Maryam Khan to inform the court `who has allowed the protesters to stage `sitins` outside the Parliament House`.

He added: `Someone has to be held accountable for allowing these protesters to stage the `sit-ins` at the most sensitive place of the country.

The judge directed the local administration to submit to the court all the permissions the administration had granted to the protesters for holding the `sit-ins` He also directed the local administration to evaluate the cost incurred on the protests so far.

The court also asked the capital administration to allocate a suitable place on the outskirts of the city where 200,000 people or even more can assemble to protest or stage a sit-in without curtailing the rights of other citizens. -Staff Reporter
