`Education system being overhauled`

KOHAT: Commissioner of Kohat division Jamaluddin on Monday said the government was striving to overhaul education system in the province.

He also said efforts were underway to restore the honour of teachers in the society.

The commissioner was speaking to teachers and students during a summer camp at the Government Girls High School No 1 here.

He said women could play a vital role in building the country and thus, ensuring better future of next generations.

Jamaluddin said students should use their abilities positively and optimally for bringing the country on a par with developed countries.

He said the government wanted to ensure provision of educational facilities in the urban areas, which were neglected in the past.

The commissioner praised teachers for organising extracurricular activities, which, he said, encouraged students to become good human beings.

He praised students for staging excellent tableaus and putting up stalls of good articles.

Later, the commissioner along with deputy commissioner Amjid Ali Khan distributed prizes and certificates among selected students and shields among teachers for good performance.

On the request of teachers, he announced early construction of two more classrooms in the school.

The function was attended by district education officer (female) Rizwana Liaquat, deputy district education officer Hasrat Zohra, assistant district education officer Noor Jehan and Camp organiser Gul Shaheen also spoke on the occasion.

PROCLAIMED OFFENDERS HELD: The police on Monday arrested seven proclaimed offenders in the district.

The arrested men have been named in several murder and attempted murder cases.

The police arrested Roman Shah and Yar Badshah in Lachi area, Ashoor and Saeed in Jarma, and Mawez Khan, Rehman and Khanzala in Saddar area.

A spokesman for the police said all the arrested men would be produced before the court of law today (Tuesday) for remand.
