RAWALPINDI: Although the Rawalpindi division ranked first in the best performing division in education, the Rawalpindi district was ranked 20th.

The Rawalpindi division came in first out of the six provincial divisions in the Punjab Education Sector Reforms rankings for the second quarter of 2016-17. Jhang came in first in the district level rankings, Pakpattan came in second and Okara came in third.

Rawalpindi district, the largest in the Rawalpindi division, is in 20th place while the smaller districts of Jhelum and Chakwal came in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Despite better infrastructure in the district, the performance of government-run schools has declined in recent years.

In 2012, the district came in third in the quarterly rankings, and has fallen in the rankings in the four years since.—A Reporter
