2015-02-27
PESHAWAR: Students of various colleges and universities held a rally here on Thursday to record their protest against the increasing tuition and admission fee in different educational institutions of the province.

The protesters were led by Insaf Student Federation`s provincial president Suhail Afridi and other office-bearers. They marched from the press club to civil secretariat and then held a rally outside the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly building.

One student received burn injuries while setting old tyres on fire during the protest. He was immediately taken to the Lady Reading Hospital by officials of Rescue 1122.

The protesters were holding placards and banners inscribed with their demands and chanted slogans against substantial increase in tuition fee and other problems being faced by the students.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Afridi said that increase in admission, tuition and hostel fee was an unjustified act on the part of the administration of the University of Peshawar and other educational institutions and warned that if the decision was not taken back they would extend their protest to other cities.

Mr Afridi said that their demands also included construction of new hostels and provision of accommodation to the needy students. He also demanded special financial package for the displaced students and an end to the discrimination. He said that a charter of demands pertaining to problems of the students had been presented to the provincial government, but no attention had been paid by the leadership.-Bureau Report
