Bureau Report 2016-04-27
PESHAWAR: A local court on Tuesday convicted a lawyer for scandalising a judge, and sentenced him to 10 days imprisonment with a fine of Rs1,000.

The court of judicial magistrate, Asif Jadoon, ruled that the case was proved against the lawyer, Fakharyab, that he had committed contempt of court.

The decision of the court triggered a controversy, and the Peshawar District Bar Association (PDBA) announced to observe boycott of all the courts today (Wednesday).

An official said that a few weeks ago, the lawyer had lodged a complaint against civil judge Tahreema Sabahat for being partial in a case concerning him. However, after an inquiry conducted on order of the Peshawar High Court his charges were found to be baseless.

The official said later on the said judge had also lodged a complaint of misbehaviour and also scandalising the court against the lawyer.

The case was referred to the judicial magistrate, Asif Jadoon for trial.

PDBA President Amjid Ali Marwat told media persons that on Wednesday they would also chalk out a future course of action.

He claimed that the association was trying to resolve the issue amicably, but the situation was aggravated with the conviction of their member and his imprisonment.
