PESHAWAR: The members of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Civil Service Association have decided to go on strike if outcome of their 10-member delegation`s meetings with chief secretary and speaker of provincial assembly does not go well.

The meetings are likely to take place next week. The decision was taken in a meeting of the association which was attended by the both senior and junior officers.

A statement issued here said thatseveral officers proposed agitation till removal of the chief secretary and resolution of provincial of ficers` case, which was being heard by a law reforms committee of the provincial assembly.

It said that after prolonged deliberations, it was decided that a 10-member committee comprising senior officers would meet the chief secretary and speaker ofprovincial assembly. In case the results were not desirable, then all the 700 officers would observe pen-down strike across the province and Fata, it added.

The statement said that the com-mittee would present its report in a meeting on Monday and the strike would be announced accordingly.

It said that provincial ofñcers were faced with serious issues for the past one year. They had been discriminated against administratively in postings, promotions and training, it added.

`They have been victimised on account of biased inquiries and almost all active and competent officers from BPS-17 to BPS-21 have been victimised in one way or the other,` said the statement.

It said that posting of Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS) offic-ers to the province was unconstitutional, illegal and injustice with the provincial officers. It was root cause of bad governance in the province, it added.

The statement said that provincial assembly dumped the case of PMS vs PAS officers and was reluctant to exercise its powers under Article 240 (b) as it had been influenced by the otherparty.

Earlier on Monday, the association has also written a letter to the speaker of provincial assembly to convene meeting of committee so that this issue is properly addressed.
