Road rehabilitated KHAR, Oct 26: Bajaur Agency Political Agent Syed Abdul Jabar Shah on Sunday said his administration was committed to providing basic facilities to the people of far-flung and militancy hit areas.

He was speaking at the ceremony to inaugurate the newly rehabilitated road in Regi Bilalabad village of Mamond tehsil. USAID provided funds for the road.

Tribal elders, members of peace committees, Senator Hidaytullah Khan, USAID and Fata Secretariat Special Project officials were in attendance. Mr Shah said restoration of modern facilities and rehabilitation of infrastructures in the militancy hit areas were top priority of the administration. `Dozens of schemes have been launched in the region to help improve life standard of people,` he said.

The political agent said the road linked rural communities to schools, health services and markets.

He asked elders to continue supporting the administration in maintaining peace in the region.-Correspondent Swara accused jailed MINGORA, Oct 26: A local court on Saturday sent six swara accused, including a local cleric, to the district jail Timergara here.

The Matta police produced the six swara accused, including jirga members Salar, Suleman, local cleric Maulvi Fazal Jamil, father of the girl, Sher Zada, Mohammad Iqbal and his son, Habib Ullah before a local court, which sent all the accused to the jail. On Wednesday, the court had handed over all the accused to the police on a three-day physical remand.-Correspondent Austrian envoy visits Chitral CHITRAL, Oct 26: Austrian Ambassador to Pakistan Axel Wech has said his country will continue extending help to the people of Chitral in education, disaster management and youth development.

During his weeklong visit to the sites of different projects funded by his government, he expressed satisfaction over the community participation in development activities.

The ambassador evinced great interest in the income generating projects designed for women by his development partners which included honey bee keeping training project. The ambassador also visited the Youth Development Centre in which 300 women have been imparted technical skills in different trades, English language and computer literacy.He said the centre would help arrest the menacing trend of suicides among women in Chitral as financial constraints were one of the reasons behind such incidents.

He also promised to carry out a study to know the causes and find solution to the problem.-Correspondent Saifullah`s absence resented LAKKI MARWAT, Oct 26: The local chapter of Pakistan People`s Party on Saturday expressed concern over the long absence of provincial party chief Anwar Saifullah from his native district, and asked him to visit the district immediately and oversee preparations for the upcoming local bodies elections.

They were speaking at a meeting in Naurang town here.

The participants discussed preparations for the local bodies polls. PPP`s district president Iqbal Hussain presided over the meeting. District general secretary Qismatullah, deputy general secretary Isam Gul, and other office holders and workers were in the attendance.

`We want Mr Saifullah to leave Islamabad and come to the district to supervise arrangements for coming local bodies elections,` said a participant. They said the PPP would not let the field open in the local government elections. They asked the workers to accelerate the mass contact campaign to ensure party`s success in the elections.-Correspondent More dengue cases surface MINGORA, Oct 26: Thirty-one more residents on Saturday tested positive for dengue at Saidu Group of Teaching Hospital here, taking the number of the mosquitoborne disease to 8,804 in Swat district.

According to Dr Wasil Khan, focal person for dengue emergency unit, of the total 4,976 patients admitted to hospital 4,733 had been discharged after treatment. He said that 82 patients, including 62 men, 16 women and four children, were under treatment at the hospital while 16 were discharged during last 24 hours. Dr Khan said that 16 patients, including 15 men and one woman, were in critical condition and had been admitted to high dependency unit of the hospital.-Correspondent Two killed in Charsadda CHARSADDA, Oct 26: Two people were killed in separate incidents here on Saturday.

Unknown assailants killed Khan Bahadar,60, after entering his house in Dhara Balolavillage. Mujahid, son of the deceased, reported to Khanmahi police that he had gone his maternal uncle when his father was shot dead by unknown assailants.

Abdur Rehman, 19, and was killed and five others suffered wounds when a passenger van first hit his motorcycle and then collided with a Qingqi rickshaw.-Correspondent
