Schools in Malakand to remain closed today

PESHAWAR: All the public and private schools in the Malakand division would remain closed today (Tuesday) in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake, said the divisional commissioner Mohammad Usman.

Talking to Dawn he said that district administrations had been directed to keep the schools shut for a day. He added that a tournament among the high schools of the division had also been cancelled due to the earthquake.

Separately, political administration in the Bajaur Agency also notified that educational institution would remain closed for an indefinite period owing to the reports of aftershocks, according to the agency education officer, Said Gul.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority told Dawn that they had asked the district administrations in the hilly areas to suggest whether the schools should be closed or not in the wake of the earthquake and aftershocks.
