Spelling Bee Lahore pool rounds begin today

LAHORE: The Lahore Pool Rounds of the lith DAWN In Education Spelling Bee Competition begins here on Tuesday (today).

The competition is being held by The DAWN Media Group in partnership with the United States Embassy, Islamabad.

As many as 153 schools from Lahore, Sialkot, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Okara, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Kasur, Muridke, Daska, Phalia, Sukheke and Sheikhupura are participating in the round to be held at the Ali Institute of Education.

The contest will be held in three age groups. The pool rounds for the 9-11, 12-14 and 15-17 age groups will be held from Oct 27 to 30, a press release issued on Monday said.

The Lahore pool winners will compete with the Multan and Faisalabad pools winners in the Lahore Regional Championship which will be held on Nov 2.

Three students from each age group from Multan and Faisalabad pool rounds have already qualified for the Lahore Regional Championship.

Judgesfor the contest are provided by the Oxford University Press (OUP).

TheNationalChampionship is scheduled for Nov 19 in Islamabad, where the regional champions of the three age groups, from Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad will compete.

Over 6,000 children from the ages of 9-17 years from all over Pakistan are participating in the contest which is part of the DAWN In Education programme devised to expand children`s horizons beyond the classroom and enhance their process of learning.
