GCU holds job fair

LAHORE: A job fair at the Government College University on Thursday received an enthusiastic response as hundreds of university graduates and hnal year students nocked to the fair to explore employment and internship opportunities in national and international organisations.

Punjab Higher Education Commission Chairman Prof Dr Muhammad Nizamuddin was chief guest at the closing ceremony of the fair.

As many as 53 organisations, including banks, IT firms, NGOs, manufactures and e-commerce websites, set up their stalls at the job fair and offered more than 400 internship and permanent placement opportunities to university students and graduates.

An interesting incidentoccurred during the job fair when the participating multinational firms and banks told philosophy students that they did not have any placement or internship opportunities for them and the students told them the importance of the subject.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Nizamuddin said that there was wide gap between the universities curriculum and modern market demands, adding such job fairs played a vital role in bridging this gap. He revealed that he had got his first job in the United States from a job fair.

GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah also spoke.

Later, Dr Nizamuddin gave away certificates to the representatives of the companies that participated in the job fair.
