NAB arrests senior public works officer

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau, Lahore, on Friday arrested an executive engineer of the Pakistan Public Works Depanment (PWD).

According to the NAB, Zaheer Ahmed Warraich had assets worth Rs80 million disproportionate to known sources of income.

It said some `whistle-blowers` in 2015 filed a complaint against him.

`Warraich got appointment in PWD as an assistant executive engineer on Aug 13, 1991 and was promoted as executive engineer in August 2008. During his service he managed to acquire various assets whose acquisition cost sums up to Rs80m,` it said and funher accused the officer of owning four luxury vehicles, bank accounts in his own name and in the names of his brothers, two houses of two-kanal each, one-kanal plot and one villa in a posh society in Lahore.

The NAB said Warraich also acquired share in controlled poultry sheds consisting of 32 kanal and 160-kanal agricultural land in Toba Tek Singh and 20 kanal in Faisalabad.
