Govt urged to increase education budget to 5pc

PESHAWAR: Speakers at a seminar on Wednesday urged the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to increase allocation for the education sectorto hve percent.

The seminar was arranged by Islami Jamiat Talba, student wing of JI, at Peshawar Press Club here. A number of students` leaders, including central nazim of IJT Zubair Hafeez, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter nazim Shah Zaman Durrani, Peshawar nazim Shahkar and others spoke on the occasion.

Commenting on the pathetic situation of education in KP, Zubair Hafeez said the successive governments had never paid proper heed to improvement of education system., and that was why the situation worsened with passage of time.

He urged the government to allocate five per cent of the budget for education so that the out of schools children could be enrolled. He said that education was basic tool for progress of the nation and development of the country.

Referring to the existing political, economic problems, the IJT leader said that such issues could be resolved if the government gave proper attention to improvement of education.

The other speakers also stressed the need for lawmakers to play their role effectively to improve quality of education in the province. They also demanded of the government to ensure that all the funds were properly spent on promotion of education.

They also asked for adopting solid policies so that students belonging to humble backgrounds and far flung areas could also get education and play positive role in the society.

The speakers urged the students to join hands for their rights under the banner of IJT.

The IJT, they said had launched a campaign to motivate lawmakers for paying proper attention towards education to enable the new generation to compete in different fields across the world.
