50 traders fined, three jailed for profiteering

UPPER DIR: The local administration on Saturday fined 50 shopkeepers and jailed three meat sellers for violating the official pricelist.

Assistant commissioner, Dir, Khawja Fahim Sajjad, on the directive of deputy commissioner Imran Hameed Sheikh, visited bazaars in Dir town, Chukiatan, Bebyawar, Darora and other areas to check the prices of daily use items. Policemen and Levies personnel accompanied him.

The checking team arrested three meat sellers for profiteering and sent them behind bars. The team also fined 50 shopkeepers for overcharging the consumers.

Talking to reporters on the occasion, Fahim Sajjad said the district administration would ensure traders observed the official pricelist.

Meanwhile, the Wari police arrested 12 proclaimed offenders during raids.

Relevant officials said six of the arrested POs were wanted to the police in murder cases. Among the arrested outlaws was a culprit identified as Morsaleen, who had escaped abroad and had recently returned to the country.

The officials said that the police also recovered weapons, including Kalashnikovs, pistols and rounds, from the possession of the arrested criminals.
