Kidnapper killed in raid NOWSHERA, Oct 27: The local police on Sunday killed a kidnapper, arrested his three accomplices and recovered a child from their captivity during a raid on their hideout here.

DPO Waqar Ahmed told mediapersons here that police raided a house in Banda Nabi village in Pabbi area on a tip-off that a child was in captivity of the kidnappers there. He said the child, Mohsin, 3, was kidnapped from Wah Cantt on October 20, and the kidnappers demanded Rs6 million ransom from his parents.

He said notorious criminal and kidnapper, Hamayun Khan of Peshawar, was killed in the raid while his wife and two accomplices were arrested.

Police sources said Pabbi and Peshawar police jointly conducted the raid, adding the accused would be presented before the court today (Monday). Body of the kidnapper was brought to Pabbi hospital for autopsy. The police registered the case against the accused and started investigation. Correspondent Walk held on black day PESHAWAR, Oct 27: A walk led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Local Government Inayat-ur-Rehman was on Sunday held in connection with the black day observed by Kashmiris across the world against illegal occupation of their land by India.

The observance of black day is aimed at drawing the world attention towards the miseries of Kashmiris and to appeal to the international community to take cognisance of the urgency of resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the Kashmiris` aspirations.

It is also meant to sending a loud and clear message that Kashmiris reject illegal occupation of their homeland and that they are determined to continue struggle till getting rid of Indian subjugation.

It was on 27th October in 1947 when Indian troops invaded Jammu and Kashmir and occupied it in total violation of the Partition Plan of the subcontinent and against the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.-APP Sports gala starts GHALANAI, Oct 27: A sports gala organised by Radio Pakistan started at Ghalanai sports stadium here on Sunday.

Agency sports manager Saeed Akhtar, PTI local leader Sajid Khan and journalist Gul Mohammad opened the event, which features games like cricket, volleyball, race and karate. Addressing the opening ceremony, Mr Akhtar said the sports gala would attract a large number of local youths to the various games He said as peace had been restored in the area, tribal players would get an opportunity to polish their skills and be able to compete at the national level.

He said people of Mohmand Agency were peace-loving and had extended every help in restoration of government writ in the region. He called upon people to take part in the games.

Meanwhile, a theater drama `Arman` focusing on education and peace will be played in Ghalanai Jirga Hall here.Correspondent Dengue affects more people MINGORA, Oct 27: Twenty-nine more people on Sunday tested positive for dengue fever at Saidu Group of Teaching Hospital, taking the number of the patients to 8,837 in Swat district.

Dr Wasil Khan, focal person for dengue emergency unit, said that of the total 5,005 patients admitted to the hospital, 4,750 had been discharged.

He said that 77 patients, including 53 men, 20 women and four children, were under treatment at the hospital, while 27 were discharged on Sunday. Dr Khan said that 23 patients, including 19 men and three women, were in critical condition and they had been admitted to high dependency unit of the hospital. -Correspondent Urdu day function PESHAWAR, Oct 27: Students on Sunday presented tableaus, skits, national songs and poems during a function at the St Mary`s High School here to observe the Urdu day.

The students also delivered speeches to highlight importance of the day. Professor Nazir Ahmed Tabassum was the chief guest, while a large number of parents were also in attendance.

On the occasion, Mr Tabassum highlighted the role of students and parents in promotion of Urdu. `I urge students to use libraries and read Urdu literature,` he said.

Mr Tabassum said Urdu was among the top five languages of the world as it was spoken and understood in all the continents of the world.

He appreciated the role of schools and teachers in guiding students to the right direction.

In-charge of the Urdu day Samson Jacob thanked the chief guest and other participants for gracing the event.

In the end, Principal Br Noel presented a souvenir to Mr Tabassum. -Bureau Report PMS officers set up body PESHAWAR, Oct 27: The officers of the Provincial Management Services (PMS) on Sunday constituted a body to resolve their problems, at a meeting held at a local hotel here.

President of Pakistan Provincial Civil Servants Khalid Khan, Shafeerullah Wazir, Afaq Ahmad, Roshan Mehsud, Zaheerul Islam and others spoke on the occasion. The participants constituted an executive committee and its cabinet with Fayaz Ali as its president.

The committee was tasked to work judiciously to register the PMS Of ficers Association and to address the concerns of all the stakeholders.-APP
