PU teachers protest against metro train

LAHORE: The Punjab University teachers on Tuesday took out a demonstration againstconstruction of Orange Line Train Project offices on University Town-I land and symbolically blocked campus road for one minute.

The PU Academic Staff Association organized the rally.

Secretary of the association, Dr Mahboob Hussain, told the participants the bureaucracy was misguiding the government and avoiding use of agricultural land located next to the University Town-I.

He said the agricultural land could be purchased easily on cheaper rates but the bureaucracy wanted to con-struct offices on developed land to save agricultural land of the influential people.

He said the Punjab University teachers would not accept construction of the project offices at any cost and urged the government not to compel the teachers for taking extreme steps.

Meanwhile, China`s Consul General in Lahore Yu Boren called on Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran at his office on Tuesday.

The meeting stressed the need to enhance collaboration between the academic institutions of both the countries and discussed establishment of Confucius Institute at Institute of Languages in Jan next year.
