NAB arrests `fraudsters` PESHAWAR, Nov 27: National Accountability Bureau, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has obtained 10 days physical remand of three accused involved in illegal sale and purchase of land in Mardan and Swabi districts depriving people of their hard-earned money.

The accused included Mohammad Munir, Asad Javed Khan and patwari Akbar Khan.

According to a statement issued here on Wednesday, the accused were arrested by a NAB team headed by assistant director Mohammad Akmal. It was stated that total looted money stood at Rs22 million.

The accused promised with people to provide them property but neither they handed the land nor returned the money to the affected persons.

Taking cognizance of the complaints, NAB initiated inquiry into the wrongdoing and established their involvement in cheating public at large. Consequently they were arrested and produced in court. -Bureau Report Blast in Swabi SWABI, Nov 27: An explosive device planted in a graveyard in a congested locality went off here on Wednesday, but no one was injured in the explosion.

Bomb disposal squad officials and police reached the spot soon after the explosion and collected evidence.

District police officer Sajjad Khan told this correspondent that the bomb was planted in the Kalu Khan graveyard.

He said that no one was present near the spot at the time of the explosion. The police registered the case against unidentified accused and started investigation.

Two days ago, a market owned by the family of provincial minister Shahram Khan Tarakai, chairman of Awami Jamhoori Ittehad Pakistan, was targeted in the district headquarters town here. -Correspondent Sports competitions TIMERGARA, Nov 27: Sports` competitions among government primary schools in Lower Dir concluded here on Wednesday. The events organised by the local elementary and secondary education department.

Prize distribution ceremonies were held at Talash, Chakdara, Jandol and Maidan.

Government primary school (GPS), Timergara won the cricket tournament defeating GPS Tarai. The final of badminton was won by GPS Timergara by defeating GPS Khungi. GPS Tangay got first position in the tug of war event, defeating GPS Nagri Payeen team. GPS Mano Dherai won the PT show competition while GPS Timergara got first position in long jump event.

Similarly, GPS Tangay Shamshi Khan won Qirat competition, Kano Shamshi Khan naat, GPS Bajauro national anthem, GPS Soghaly patriotic song, Tangay Shamshi Khan English speech and GPS Macho Urdu speech competitions, respectivley. -Correspondent Civic problems in Karak KARAK, Nov 27: Residents of Ahmadabad on Wednesday demanded of the Karak deputy commissioner to resolve the problems facing the locality. They were speaking at an open forum held here.

They complained of shortage of doctors and other equipments at the local rural health centre, where they added, two power generators had been stolen in the past.

They also complained that the health centre only had single doctor for a population of over 30,000, and demanded posting of required doctors particularly a women medical officer to the centre. The elders regretted that due to absence of drainage system in the locality stagnant water in streets caused mosquito borne diseases.

They said the locality also faced acute shortage of water.

Deputy commissioner Aqal Badshah assured the residents of resolving their problems at the earliest. -Correspondent Misuse of funds PESHAWAR, Nov 27: The Tribal Youth Front has accused the government of diverting funds meant for development of Fata to the settled areas and demanded of the donor agencies to ensure utilisation of the funds in the under-developed tribal region.

Speaking at a news conference at Peshawar Press Club here on Wednesday, Malik Rehman Afridi, a member of the front, said that the funds of Fata Secretariat Programme were being used on development of settled areas of the province.

These funds, he said were spent on improvement of infrastructure in the settled areas while the fully destroyed and partially damaged buildings of educational institutions and healthcare centres in Fata were ignored.

He pointed out that the farmers in Fata were also in dire need of financial support, quality seeds and fertilizer, but they were not given any attention. -Bureau Report Water shortage LAKKI MARWAT, Nov 27: Chief of Jamaat-i-Islami, Lakki chapter, Sabz Ali Naveed has demanded of the concerned authorities to ensure presence of sanitary workers on duty and resolve water shortage problem in the urban locality.

Talking to journalists here on Wednesday, he said that residents of Lakki city were confronted with poor hygienic condition and scarcity of drinking water due to apathy of the municipal workers. He criticised the municipal committee for its poor performance and said the civic body was not interested in improving the situation.

The JI leader alleged that many sanitary workers got salaries from the civic body but performed duty at the hujras and houses of local Khans and influential politicians.

He asked the chief municipal officer to take the negligent worl(ers to task and improve cleanliness condition in the locality. -Correspondent Two IEDs defused PESHAWAR, Nov 27: Police on Wednesday foiled sabotage attempts by defusing two improvised explosive devices in limits of Sarband police station here.

An official of the police rural circle said both the bombs had been planted under a bridge near Achini village to target the law enforcers, but timely information helped defuse the bombs. `We immediately called personnel of Bomb Disposal Unit who defused the explosives.

He said that search operation was conducted for arrest of the people involved in the act but so far no one had been arrested. A BDU official said bombs weighed 10 and eight kilograms, respectivley, and were planted in canisters. Bureau Report
