Political parties asked to help educate voters

LAKKI MARWAT: Speakers at a seminar on Friday called upon the political parties and civil society activists to launch voter education campaign to strengthen democracy and ensure good governance.

The local office of the Election Commission of Pakistan had arranged the seminar in Lakki city.

Speakers included regional election commissioner, Bannu, Ahmad Nawaz, district election commissioner Noorza Ali Shah, election officer Abdul Rauf Khan, Fafen representative Izzat Khan, JUI-F district general secretary Maulana Bashir Ahmad Haqqani and a local leader of Qaumi Watan Party Imranullah Marwat.

They said that democracy could be strengthened and objectives of good governance could be achieved with the power of vote.

They said the seminar was aimed to provide information on who was eligible to vote and how to get registered as new voter, besides educating people about how to check voter lists.

The speakers said political parties, nongovernmental organisations, ulema, teachers and people from other segments of society should work for ensuring women participation in the election process.

They asked the civil society and other government organisations to inform people about their rights and usefulness of casting vote.

On the occasion, political workers and civil society representatives urged the ECP officials to send mobile teams to each union council for registration of eligible voters.

PHC CHIEF JUSTICE VISITS LAKKI: Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court Justice Mian Faseehul Mulk has underlined the need for close and cordial relations between bench and bar to provide speedy justice to people.

This he said while speaking at a function organise d by district bar association in judicial complex Tajazal here on Friday. PHC judges Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel, Justice Asadullah Khan Chamkani, Justice Mohammad Daud Khan, Lakki district and sessions judge Mohammad Hamid Mughal, bar president Naimatullah Khan and MPA Munawar Khan were among those present on the occasion.

Earlier, a police contingent presented salute to the chief justice on his arrival at the judicial complex.
