Woman tortured in Hayatabad

Bureau Report 2014-03-29
PESHAWAR: A woman with visible signs of violence on parts of her body and crying in pain was brought to Peshawar Press Club on Friday where she accused some influential people of kidnapping and beating her up at the posh Hayatabad locality on Thursday night.

`I was kidnapped by seven people, including two women, on Thursday night to the residence of Arbab Khalid at Board area and subjected to severe torture,` Nageena, wife of one Irfan and a resident of Abbottabad, said and added that her only fault was that she had demanded release of her daughter from illegal confinement of Mr Khalid.

Her husband, Mr Irfan, said that he belonged to Abbottabad and was working as driver for past some years. `We are living near Shalman Park and my daughter has been serving at the residence of Mr Khalid for past one year, but he is not paying her salaries,` he said.

The complainant said that on Thursday her wife visited the residence of Mr Khalid to receive the salaries or get her daughter released as the employer was not allowing her to go home.

`I was in Islamabad on duty when an armed group kidnapped my wife and subjected her to severe torture and dumped her outside our residence after midnight,` he alleged.

Mr Irfan said that his injured wife was taken to Hayatabad and Tatara police stations, but the police did not register case because the accused were influential persons. `We also took her to Hayatabad MedicalComplex but doctors asked us to lodge the report with police before treatment,` he said.

In the meantime, Dr Mehr Taj Roghani, advisor to the chief minister, during her visit to the press club sent the woman to Lady Reading Hospital, saying that the woman`s condition was serious.

She also directed the police to register the case. `We visited the LRH and have registered a case against one Ghaffar and six other people,` an official of Hayatabad police station said on contact by this correspondent.

However, the official claimed that the woman was playing a drama.
