Qaim hints at more stringent anti-terror measures in Sindh

BADIN: All necessary measures to ensure foolproof security across Sindh have been taken in the wake of the Sunday evening bomb blast in a Lahore public park that claimed many lives of people.

This was stated by Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah while speaking to journalists in Chaudhry Ghulam Mohammed Arain and Haji Ramzan Chandio villages near Tando Ghulam Ali Shah town on Monday. He said the law and order in Sindh had become far better than in Punjab and lauded the role of the army, Rangers and provincial police in this regard.

Expressing his grief and sorrow over the Lahore carnage, Mr Shah noted that many people belonging to Sanghar and Tando Allahyarwere among the dead and injured.

He held out the assurance that his government would fully cooperate with the affected families. The officials concerned have been directed to keep in touch with them, he said.

Stressing the need for effectively controlling terrorism across the country, he said that security forces in Sindh had arrested more than 300 terror suspects associated with proscribed outfits as well as other organisations over the past three years.

`We are taking serious measures to check the mushroom growth of unregistered seminaries in lower Sindh. Police have been ordered to take action against those who have established seminaries without the mandatory approval from the government.

Hinting at more stringent measures to be taken to curb terrorismand crime, the chief minister said: `The apex committee at its meeting today is likely to take some important decisions with regard to the situation arising out of the Lahore carnage.

Anti-flood measures Mr Shah said that his government was fully committed to serving the people of Sindh. Appropriate measures were being taken to strengthen dykes of irrigation channels across the province before the onset of monsoon, he said.

He announced construction of new drains in Matli, Talhar and Tando Bago talukas of Badin district to ensure an unhindered flow of rainwater and its safe disposal into the sea during monsoon.

The chief minister said that Sindhonce again strongly opposed the Kalabagh dam project at the recent meeting of the Council of Common Interests, and said his government would never support any such projectproposedbythefederalgovernment on the pretext of rainwater going waste.

Regarding more development schemes, Mr Shah said that under the directives of [PPP chairman] Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and [cochairman] Asif Ali Zardari, he had asked all party MPAs to submit the uplift schemes to him by April 1 so that they could be included in the next annual development programme.

Earlier, the chief minister inaugurated the basic health unit building in Haji Ramzan Chandio village and the link road within Chaudhry Ghulam Mohammed Arain village.
