CM opens police training school

MARDAN: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Tuesday inaugurated the police school of public disorder management here.

The school would train police force in professional handling of public protests and riots with due regard to human rights and dignity, according to a statement.

Mr Khattak also witnessed training activities at the school, and awarded certificates and shields to the officers.

Inspector General of Police Nasir Khan Durrani briefed the chief minister about the school, saying that the institute had been established for grooming and training of police officers on modern lines. Mr Durrani said police officers would also be trained in handing mobs, learning negotiation skills and knowing special needs of the vulnerable groups. University Students and other groups of civil society would also be engaged for working out solutions in protest and public disorder situations.

The police chief said the officers were also trained in martial arts, and use of anti-riot equipment.

Mr Durrani said importance of such training in Third World countries, where protests and riots have become too frequent for a number of socio-economic reasons as any mishandling of the situation could lead to a considerable loss of public property and life.-Correspondent
