2014-05-29
NEW DELHI: Former Finance Minister Morarji Desai`s name, along with those of Mr G. L. Nanda, the new Prime Minister and Mr Lal Bahadur Shastri, are being mentioned in Delhi`s political circles as possible candidates for leadership of the Congress Parliamentary Party.

During the next few days, the Congress High Command is expected to settle the leadership question.

Almost all the State Chief Ministers and prominent Congress leaders from all over the country are now in the capital and will obviously take part in the discussions for selecting the future leader of the party.

According to usually reliable sources, if the Rightist elements in the Congress have their way, they will select Mr Morarji Desai, who was axed from the cabinet under the Kamraj Plan, as the leader of the Parliamentary Party.

The fight for leadership may eventually turn out to be one between the Rightist forces and the Leftists within the party.
