Soldier, cousin killed while resisting kidnap bid

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Four masked motorcyclists gunned down an army man and his cousin when they resisted kidnapping attempt in Kulachi city here on Wednesday.
Police officials said that Naib Subedar Khan Zaman, who was on leave from duty, was present at Mohalla Zarnikhel area along with his cousin Javed when four masked men riding three motorcyclists came and tried to kidnap them. When they put up resistance, the gunmen opened fire and killed them on the spot. The attackers escaped.Sources said that Mr Zaman was posted in Siachin and was on leave from duty.
The Kulachi police have registered a case on the complaint of Mr Zaman`s brother, Ajab Khan, against the four unidentified persons.
Meanwhile, the police registered a case of the firing incident in which three constables were attacked and injured when they were returning from duty with an anti-measles vaccination team in Kulachi.
In a related development, a meeting was held in the DIG office here on Wednesday to review the progress in search operation for aChinese tourist who was kidnapped in Kulachi area last week.
The meeting was presided over by DIG Abdul Ghafoor Afridi. DI Khan district police officer Sadiq Hussain, SP investigation Amanullah and officials of other security agencies attended the meeting. The DIG asked the security agencies to coordinate efforts to trace the kidnapped tourist.
In Peshawar, unidentified gunmen kidnapped two people, including a school student, on Wednesday.
A grade-II student identified as Shahid, was kidnapped from the gate of private Ittefaq Model School at Badhber in the suburbs ofPeshawar in the morning.
The boy was accompanied by his brother, Abid. Their father, Jaffar Gul, told Badhber police that four people came in a car and picked one of his sons, Shahid, and disappeared.
In another case, engineer Mohammad Usman, 30, who is stated to be the nephew of Peshawar district ANP president Ghulam Mustafa was kidnapped from Gul Bahar, Peshawar, on Wednesday.
A police official referring to the case said that Mr Usman was picked up by unidentified armed men from a place near his residence in Gul Bahar.
