Four women killed on road TIMERGARA, Oct 28: Four women were killed while a minor boy was injured when a pickup van hit a roadside tree at Jauzo in the jurisdiction of Mayar Jandol police station here on Monday, local residents and police said.

They said the vehicle (J-2587-Peshawar) was part of a wedding party bound for Nasir Kaly from Samar Bagh. The dead were identified as Liaqat Bibi, Bacha Zarina, Hazim Bibi and an unknown woman.

The van`s driver, Khan Munir, escaped the scene. The police registered case against the driver and started investigation.-Correspondent School rebuilt in Bajaur KHAR, Oct 28: The Bajaur Agency political administration has reconstructed the government high school, Inayat Killi, with the financial support of USAID.

According to a press release issued here on Monday, the school was fully electrified and provided with 400 desks, benches, chairs, water tanks and other basic equipments to provide better learning environment to students. The school was destroyed four years ago.

The press release said the local administration was committed to reconstructing all the educational institutions that had been destroyed or damaged during militancy.

`The administration will rebuild several schools by the end of this year,` said the news release.-Correspondent Farmers` meeting GHALANAI, Oct 28: Farmers belonging to Haleemzai tribe on Monday formed a six-member committee at a meeting in Mian Mandi Bazaar here for resolution of their problems.

The participants also urged the farmers to register themselves with the agency`s agriculture department so they could get seeds and fertilizers.-Correspondent Two robbers arrested KARAK, Oct 28: Police on Monday arrested two alleged robbers involved in a robbery on Indus Highway.

Local officials said the accused, Nazeerullah and his brother Zaheerullah, residents of Ghundi Mir Khan Khel, were arrested during a raid on their hideout. They were shifted to unknown location for interrogation.

Meanwhile, DPO Atiqullah Wazir awarded complementary certificates to SHOs for best performance and establishing good working relationship with the public.

Also in the day, relatives of a schoolboy, Nadir Iqbal, who went missing two weeks ago in Latambar, have appealed to the police to make efforts to recover him.

Mir Qadir Khan, father of Iqbal, told journalists the family had searched all places to find whereabouts of his son but to no avail.-Correspondent Seven fraudsters booked MANSEHRA, Oct 28: The local anti corruption establishment has booked seven people, including revenue officials, for fraudulent transfer of the property of a man, who died in Canada, into their names.

Ijaz Khan, the circle in-charge of ACE Mansehra, told reporters on Monday an inquiry was launched after Marium Bibi, daughter of Mohammad Zaman, approached Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ACE director Fiaz Ali Shah, seeking legal action against the accused for illegally transferring to their name her late father`s 20 kanals land worth Rs120 million near Gazikot township. She named the accused as Mohammad Zahid, Mohammad Haroon, and Tanveer Ahmad.

He said probe found seven persons guilty of the charge, including patwari Khawaja Mohammad, girdawar Javed Arshad, tehsildar Haider Zaman, namberdar Mohammad Shahid, Mohammad Zahid, Mohammad Haroon and Faisal Khan.

The ACE official said senior civil judge also recorded the statement of Tanveer Ahmad under section 164 of CrPC.Correspondent Protest against swara MINGORA, Oct 28: Activists of a local rights` organisation on Monday staged a demonstration to protest against swara tradition and demanded of the government to take immediate steps for eradication of the unlawful act from the society.

Activists of Khwaendo Tolana gathered outside the Swat Press Club here carrying placards inscribed with slogans against the inhuman tradition. Women from different areas participated in the rally.

Speaking on the occasion, Khwaendo Tolana chairperson Tabasum Adnan said swara was not only against the country`s laws but it was also against the Islamic injunctions.

She said the government should take immediate steps against all the accused persons of five different swara cases, which had surfaced in Swat during the past one month.Correspondent Dengue claims another life MINGORA, Oct 28: Another dengue patient on Monday died at Saidu Group of Teaching Hospital, taking the death toll to 44.

Dr Wasil Khan, focal person for dengue emergency unit, identified the dead as Yasmin, 45, resident of Besham area of Shangla district.

He said 13 more people tested positive for dengue on Monday, adding of the total 5,013 patients admitted to the hospital 4,787 had been discharged after treatment.

Dr Khan said 62 patients, including 48 men, nine women and five children, were under treatment at the hospital, while 18 were discharged during last 24 hours. He said 22 patients, including 20 men and two women, were in critical condition and had been admitted to high dependency unit of the hospital.

Meanwhile, Swat assistant commissioner Farrukh Attique said 24 new dengue cases were reported from different parts of Swat, taking the number of affected persons to 8,866.-Correspondent Flood-hit await relief CHITRAL, Oct 28: The flash flood affected people of Chitral have expressed concern over the inordinate delay in distribution of relief goods sent by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif three months ago.

Talking to Dawn here on Monday, Fazle Raziq, Mehboob Shah and others of Reshun and Garam Chashma villages alleged the local PML-N leaders were playing the policy of `a dog in the manger` in the disbursement of relief goods.

They said the relief goods were loaded in fif ty trucks consisting of both food and non-food items.

They complained that the food items had been rendered unfit for human consumption as more than three months had passed since they arrived in the district.

They said the party`s local leaders distributed some items initially but discontinued distribution abruptly to the utter dismay of the flood affected people.

They said the affected people needed blankets and other beddings to get through the harsh winter.-Correspondent
