Candidates demanded that the chief minister order the board to introduce a complaint resolution mechanism.

Lahore BISE Chairman Prof Chaudhry Muhammad Ismail rejected candidates` allegations, calling them exaggerated statements.

`I`m sure no examiners would humiliate the students,` he added. He said he had personally observed the appointment of maleexaminers for rechecl(ing of complainants` papers.

`I also ordered engaging two female examiners for female candidates to avoid any sort of problem, he said.

Female examiners have started dealing with the female complainants.

Mr Ismail said if any student had any sort of complaint, he/she could contact him, the BISE secretary or the controller.

He said 45,000 candidates had applied for the rechecking of their sheets.

`I think a majority of the complaints are not based on facts,` he said.

Also, the BISE administration has suspended from service public relation officer Qaisar Virk for his failure to check the bad press on students` protests and rechecking of papers.

Official sources told Dawn that Mr Virk had also misbehaved senior officials after a recent meeting of the Punjab Board Committee of Chairmen on the issue of rechecking and entertaining the candidates.

`On Tuesday, he spoke rudely with the BISE secretary (also a woman), who reported the matter to me, the BISE chairman told Dawn. He said an inquiry had been initiated into the case under the Peeda Act.

Mr Virk rejected the allegations, stating he had yet to receive the suspension orders.

`I will meet the senior officials soon,` he added.
