Teachers without salaries for months

2016-10-29
MUZAFFARGARH: As many as 650 teachers of the Punjab Literacy Department have been denied their salaries for the last four months.

The department launched non-formal education project -Taleem Sab Kilye -and appointed lady teachers offering each of them Rs5,000 a month.

The teachers claim they have not bee paid their salaries for the last four months.

The department had reportedly allocated Rs11.6 million but the amount didn`t reflect in the Literacy and NFBE Department in District Account IV.

The literacy officer said the Non-Formal Education Project`s budget amounting to Rs11.6 million doesn`t reflectin the budget book as is the case with the Taleem Sab Kay Liay (TSKL) budget of approximately Rs1.3 million.

`The anomaly is the result of inefficiency of the district administration, and the EDOs of education and finance,` he said.

The 355 teachers of the NFBE and 290 of adult literacy centers have not been paid dues for months. The teachers have threatened to go on strike if their salary is not disbursed this month. The district officer planning says he is looking into the matter and also probing a case of alleged Rs12 million appropriation. Literacy coordinator Khizar Hayat said he had sent the matter to the higher-ups.
