4 more polio cases surface in Fata

PESHAWAR, Nov 28: The National Institute of Health, Islamabad on Thursday found four more children from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas to be polio cases.
Of these cases, three were reported in North Waziristan Agency and one in Khyber Agency.
They brought this year`s nationwide polio cases to 70, including 48 from Fata, 10 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, seven from Punjab and five from Sindh.
In North Waziristan Agency, the Taliban militants have banned polio vaccination in June 2012.Among the latest polio cases were oneyear-old Afnan, a resident of Bazar Sera Shagam village in Landi Kotal areas of Khyber Agency; Lufia, a three-year-old child from Miramshah in North Waziristan Agency; Raudana, two-year-old resident of Zoisaidgi area in Miramshah, and Laiba Raheem, 24 months girl from Shogi area of Mir Ali in North Waziristan Agency.
According to the relevant official, Afnan hadn`t gotten any dose of oral polio vaccine due to militancy and the army operation against it.
Lufia, Raudana and Laiba, too, received no OPV dose.
